What is the weirdest thing you saw in chatroulette and similar websites?

It's always the same little kid in the background laughing his ass off at every single thing. And then he'll start to get really mad and he'll start to type out some really weird shit. And then he'll type in rape. And of course, you wouldn't believe what he typed in there. So you'll see that it says jailbait. [Laughter] And you'll think that's what they're getting -- nothing will stick. And then he'll type in kill. And of course, they'll believe that it's real. And he'll have won the internet.

And then eventually it will happen in real time, but not until someone actually does something weird with it. Like, for example, they'll type kill all video games users and see what happens. Then they'll see if anybody wants to take it down. Or if anybody cares. And then they'll see if anybody cares either. Because it's happening. And it's coming. And it's hilarious.

And that's the power of the internet, that anything is possible. [Laughter] Absolutely. And that's what makes it so weird, is that you can actually have this conversation in real time. You can actually see what people type. And you can actually take actions toward them. So you can imagine trying to do that in a text chat right now. Chan to channers: kill all gamers, you'll see what I'm talking about. Chan to channers: ban gamers, you'll see what I'm talking about. You can literally take actions right now against people right here. Just type in gamers, and you can literally take immediate actions against people right here. And it's incredibly powerful, and we should really be using it. But unfortunately, the majority of people don't use it, and we really shouldn't be using it.

I'm a huge games fan. I've played all of the games in the series. I'm a huge fan of Grand Theft Auto V. I highly, highly recommend that everybody, everybody who's even vaguely interested in this subject, plays that game. I mean, it's got 90 minutes of your life, but it's the best video game ever made if you can play it. And yet, we as a society, as a culture, as a medium itself, are totally against one extreme of this issue. And it really is the fourth rail of American culture.

So games lover here is not the same as a games person. That's just the way it is. A games person can be anything. A games lover is someone who really loves everything about games, but is also able to understand the underlying issues. A person who is a games person, I think, would be someone who is eclectic.

So I'm going to talk a little bit today about psychology 1, 2 and 3. But
