I had a few people ask me a couple of weeks ago how they could use the new Android O preview build. So I thought I'd post up a few pointers to people looking to test out the new stuff.

If you don't know the name of the emulator you are using, make sure you have the latest build of Android. You can grab it from the developer website: https://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

The emulator will automatically download a version of the O preview and install it. If you are not using the preview build, you will have to manually install it to the device (just make sure you have a copy on the PC if you don't have one).

When you get the O preview build, the emulator will start downloading all the necessary files. This is very important if you want to test the update with the full app (Android 6.0.1). The build includes a huge list of new files that the O preview doesn't have. You must download and extract the correct files in order to install them on your device.

Once you have the correct files on your PC, you can either flash the O preview via a system flash (instructions here), or you can use the command line tool. To do this, just run this command:

where flash-all.sh is the name of the tool (ex. "
